Chocolate Couscous
My room-mate and I were screwing around in the kitchen this evening, trying to come up with something dessert-flavored we could cook. We have a distinct lack of stuff in the kitchen right now (we're moving at the end of the month), so improvisation happened.

We had chocolate. We had milk. We had couscous.

Yes, you heard right - chocolate couscous. The recipe is as follows (it's still being fiddled with, but this is more or less how it went):

1 box instant couscous (some organic 5-minute crap I picked up at Sunflower Market)
1/2 square unsweetened dark baker's chocolate
2 1/2 - 3 tbs super-fine sugar (regular might work, but you'll have to stir more)
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1 cup milk
1/4 cup water
1/4 tsp vanilla
1/2 - 1 tsp butter
A dash (1/4 tsp or so) of chili powder. Trust us on this one.

Combine everything but the couscous in a big saucepan and cook it on LOW until the chocolate melts and everything is nicely mixed. Remember, milk can burn, and that's bad, especially with such a small amount of milk. When everything is melted and delightful, bring the milk to a slow simmer (small bubbles) and dump in the couscous. Stir the couscous in, turn the heat off, and let it sit for five minutes.

Fluff with a fork. Fluff like mad. Fluff like you've never fluffed before! ...And then eat it.

We tried it with chicken. It was delightful with them. We think the chicken needs some dressing up, but that's an experiment for another LJ entry.
